How to patch latex garments with HOUSEHOLD items!

Latex clothing is a considered purchase that costs more than typical clothing, is fragile, stains and rips easily unfortunately. For many latex fetishist, their beloved garment will at some point become torn, ripped or a hole will occur from being caught or a nail. You can buy basic kits from various brands (see blog here). However, what if the damage occurs in your chosen latex outfit before a kink event? Here, I will show how you can do an emergency patch using common household items!

Whilst it is best to use professional rubber cement and equipment, these are basic items you can find around the home or a quick Amazon order for next day delivery.

What you need :

  • Chopping board plastic or wood

  • Rolling Pin or bottle of wine

  • Sharp pair of scissors

  • Nail polish remover or Acetone

  • Kitchen Roll

  • Copydex Latex based glue or similar (Buy here from Amazon)

  • Old latex you can cut up or latex scraps from eBay

  • Sellotape or packing tape

  • Microfibre cloth soaked in washing up liquid diluted in water

  • Baking sheet

How to patch your latex garment with these household items

Step One

If you have lost a piece from your latex garment, or if its a large tears you need to first stabilise the area using sellotape. Simply, wipe the latex shiny side with a Microfibre cloth soaked in washing up liquid diluted in water to wipe away the talc (if you have silicone shiner on the latex garment wash and dry first) Allow the area to dry full and use sellotape to close the tear or place the piece back into place. Make sure its smooth when applying with no wrinkles. If there is silicone or talc, the sellotape won't stick

Step Two

Many Latex lovers have old, damaged or torn beyond repair latex garments they no longer use. These are perfect for using to cut up for a patch. However, if you don't have this at home, you can buy latex scraps from Ebay. Or you can use exercise resistance bands at a pinch as these are latex. Cut a patch 1/2 wider than the tear, rip or hole using your scissors. Round the edges of the patch so its a OBLONG shape and not SQUARE.

Step Three

Turn the latex garment inside out carefully. Wipe the area with the Microfibre cloth soaked in the washing up liquid to remove any talk inside and allow to dry. Use Acetone or nail polish remover with acetone applied to Kitchen Roll over the  tear, rip or hole area to clean and dehydrate the latex. Allow to fully dry. Use the Acetone also on the Oblong shaped latex patch and allow to fully dry.

Step Four

Using the latex based glue, such as Copydex (smaller pots of Copydex 50ml to 125ml come with a brush applicator) Apply the Codydex glue to the area 1/2 centimetre wider that the tear, rip or hole. Apply the Copydex to the Oblong patch of latex and allow to dry till tacky when the white is turning mostly clear. Tap the area with your finger to check its still tacky.

Step Five

Place a piece of baking sheet over the  tear, rip or hole with the tacky Copydex, leaving a few millimetres exposed. Lay the Patch with tacky Copydex down so the two tacky areas are speparated by the baking sheet. Join the edge of the patch along the exposed area. Slowly pull the baking sheet away and smooth with you hand or rolling pin over the patch in the same direction, to join the patch to the latex garment. With Copydex, there is little room for mistakes. If you get air bubbles, you may be able to peel back quickly but otherwise your only option is to use a sharp pin on the inside, to prick the patch and release the air.

Step Six

Using a the wood or plastic chopping board, place the garment with the patch on the board. Then using the rolling pin or a bottle of wine for weight, gently roll and press the patch to bond the garment to the patch joining the Copydex together.

Step Seven

Turn the garment the right way again and remove the sellotape. You need to allow the area to bond fully for the next hour.

Completed! Now you have finished your emergency latex patch inside of your latex garment to save your outfit using household items!!
