Sometimes you need to repair the underwire in a latex bra or cup wire in a latex dress when the wire pushes out of the latex. Perhaps you wish to make a cup in a latex garment bigger or smaller to fit better. Maybe you want to make your own latex bra or latex garment with a underwired bra cup. This guide will show step by step how to do this
First, you need a few materials:
Latex cleaner/thinner Bostik No.4
Latex glue Bostik 3851
Rotory blade cutter
Cutting board
Seam roller press
Ruler
Gel pen
Latex sheet 0.40mm and 0.80mm
Twill tape
Underwire
Bra pattern for your size or existing bra
Super Glue
To start, you need to cut out your bra pattern or cut up an existing bra that fits to use as a pattern (draw around on to paper). Taking your underwire, You need to wrap the ends in Twill tape (around 2cm x 1cm) which will protect the sharp ends from poking out of the latex. Apply some super glue to the ends of the underwire and gently press over the ends. You can later either soak this twill in the Bostik 3851 latex glue a few times in order to make it stick to latex sheet or soak in liquid latex and allow to dry, making it easy to glue to latex sheet.
If you are adding the cup to an existing garment. Use the underwire and draw around the C-Shape on to the latex garment using a gel pen. Cut out the shape using the rotary blade cutter on the cutting board.
Next, you need to prepare a 2cm wide latex sheet 0.40mm or use a pre cut latex trim in a chosen colour and cut to 2cm longer than your underwire.
Clean the non shiny side of the latex with Bostik No.4 cleaner and allow to dry. Apply Bostik 3851 Latex glue to the latex and allow to dry.
Leaving 1cm at each end, slowly fold the latex around the wire. It doesn't matter which way (above pic shows folded towards the C Shape of the underwire). You can turn the latex around to face the right way once encapsulated. The latex needs to folded away from the C- shape of the underwire for glueing into a garment.
Cut out your bra pattern using a premed store bought pattern in the shape and style you desire or using the pattern made from an existing bra that you cut up.
Lay the pattern on the latex sheet 0.80mm or thicker for more support.
You can laminate two sheets of 0.40mm latex together (use two different colours for interest). Apply glue to non shiny side of latex and allow to dry. Place 1cm edge of the second sheet together Use masking tape to secure the sheet edge to the cutting board. Use baking sheet between the two sheets and lay the second sheet over the baking sheet. Slowly pull the baking sheet away whilst smoothing with your hand in the same direction or use a heavy rolling pin instead of your hand. This will laminate the two 0.40mm latex sheets together. Use a hypodermic needle to suck out any air bubbles. Or careful peel apart and use the same method. Allow to set before using a rolling pin to bond press the two sheets together. (Blog will be available soon with video)
Place pattern on to your 0.80mm latex sheet and cut out using the rotary blade cutter. Clean the seam and apply the Bostik latex glue to the seams and allow to dry. Use a curved surface to help join two curved seams together (Blog will be available soo with video on how to join curved seams)
Carefully attach the two seams together in the lay over method (not seam together like sewing) and press with seam roller (see opposite pic)
Clean and apply Bostik latex glue to the C-shape edge of the cup and the latex trim attached to your underwire. Going the latex cup to the latex covered underwire and allow to dry before pressing with seam roller.
Clean and apply Bostik latex glue to the C-Shape of the bra strap or the latex garment you previously prepared. Carefully attach the underwire to the latex bra strap or latex garment and allow to dry before using your seam roller to press for a strop bond.
Your underwired bra cups are now completed!
